Autumn Newsletter 2024
We were delighted with the great turnout at our AGM in June and feel energised going forward with many new initiatives planned & already implemented for the year ahead.
To our outgoing Chairperson and Treasurer, we say a very sincere thank you for their years of service and commitment to the aims and aspirations of our Association.
We welcome our new Chairperson to the helm and wish her well in this new assignment. We look forward also to working with and welcome on board our three new committee members.
You will have noticed that the walls on the Main Road and around the Green at Broadford Walk were painted during the Summer. Resulting in a brighter and cleaner environment, the downside is the overhang of growth from some back gardens. Where applicable, we respectfully request residents to maintain and cut-back the overhang from their own gardens, as it is already destroying the recent paintwork.
If volunteers could be found, perhaps the link roads and lanes could receive active consideration before year end.
To register expressions of interest, volunteering or uptake on any of our initiatives, you can contact the Secretary on our new email address - broadfordresidents@gmail.com
Defibrillators: The Association deeply appreciate the part funding received from dlrcoco in respect of the recently erected Defibrillators within our Estate. We invite you to carefully read the Information Card delivered with this Newsletter as it outlines the various steps to be taken should you need to use a Defib. For future reference, it might also be advisable to keep the Card in a safe place.
Please note, it is essential to inform the Secretary of the Residents Assoc at broadfordresidents@gmail.com whenever the device is removed from the Cabinet or used. It must be made ready in advance of the next call-out.
CPR: Building upon the success of the CPR training provided earlier in the year, it is hoped to provide another session during the coming year.
Signage: In pursuit of an accident-free and a safer Estate together with the absence of formal signage from dlrcoco for the foreseeable future, we have decided to erect signage advising that 30 is Enough throughout the Estate. Some posters came our way before the local elections, but we have now decided to extend this initiative to include internal Roads in Broadford. We earnestly ask drivers to slow down and ensure the safety of all our residents and visitors, who may not be familiar with our Roads network.
With Hallow'een around the corner, we have been contacted by many residents to highlight the dangers associated with Fireworks. This illegal practice can have tragic results for all age groups, property & pets. It has also come to our attention that the walls of an externally insulated home were damaged in a fireworks incident.
See gov.ie for further advice & information.
Parents, please ensure that children are made aware of the dangers associated with this illegal & dangerous practice.
If not already decorated, perhaps your littles might like to consider dressing their own gateways, homes or porches with appropriate Oíche Shamhna memorabilia!
We are delighted to announce that Broadford now hosts its very own website. Dedicated to the activities of Broadford Residents' Association, our objective is to offer an information resource where residents can easily access information pertinent to the Association remit. It is our intention to include
- details of upcoming events – such as the AGM, Estate Clean-Up, Litter picks.
- activities of the Association Committee or Sub Committees plus relevant advice from dlrcoco
- information regarding Neighbourhood Watch or Community Garda Advice / Text Alerts
- Digital version of Newsletters / Flyers
- Public R/A policies – Constitution of the Association
- Photos of R/A activities within the Estate.
This is NOT a platform of advertising for services. Topics not posted will include personal information or information about residents. Photos of Children.
The heavy lifting has already been done – from the annual costings associated with the website hosting and domain registration, to the preparation of our website policy document. You are most welcome to visit us at: www.broadfordresidents.ie
It is timely that this information resource will bring an added dimension to an Estate where many of its residents are currently celebrating some fifty years in our midst.
Annual Subscription: We thank all Residents who have paid their annual subscription of €15. To date, the electronic funding option announced at our AGM has resulted in an uptake by some 42 households. However, it is hoped that this number will increase in 2025.
Unfortunately, not all residents provided their house number, or Road details, so we are currently carrying out a cross-check of our Bank statement and matching it with our own collection records. Should discrepancies come to light, you will be notied.
A gentle reminder to those who on paper opted to avail of the electronic facility but who have not yet done so, we would appreciate your co-operation with this oversight. Naturally, the Envelope option will remain in place!
As you are aware, all monies collected are ploughed back into the Estate. Unfortunately, the summer colour is coming to an end in the flowerbeds. But fear not, our
Christmas colour will again be provided when we get the proposed Cyclamen planted. Hopefully, some Pumpkins might sprout up in the beds during the coming week!
Volunteers: We deeply appreciate the work of the many Volunteers who give freely of their time and efforts to keep our Estate pristine and Litter free. To those who deliver Newsletters & Leaflets or participate in the collection of the Annual Subscriptions we say a very sincere thank you. We are deeply indebted to all of you. Should YOU, dear reader, wish to join the ranks of active participants, please be assured of a hearty Céad Míle Fáilte! Contact can be made with the Secretary using our new email address: broadfordresidents@gmail.com
We look forward to a productive and fulfilling year ahead & undertake to do our very best for this great Area of ours!
Let us take Pride in our Estate and continue to make Broadford a place we are proud to call Home. To do so, we are all dependent on one another – as our Motto states
"Ní Neart go Cur le Chéile"
